WEST HILL SECONDARY SCHOOL EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 2012-2013
It is important to participate in school life and get involved. These experiences will carry with you for life; you develop friendships, participate in healthy lifestyles and gain valuable knowledge for future endeavors. You may also find employment opportunities and scholarships based on the variety of activities you participate in. Most important, it is FUN! Care about your school culture and participate.
Pay your student fees to participate in school activities. Student fees this year are $60.00. This will also include a yearbook. The Activity Fee per sport varies. If these fees cannot be paid, please see adminstration or guidance. We want you to participate and have fun.
Listen to announcements to see when the group is starting up. Ask the front office or guidance where to locate teachers involved with the activity you are interested in. Teachers and costs may vary from year to year. Find out more information about joining. Listen to announcements and get involved. It's FUN!
OFSAA AGE CLASSIFICATIONS EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 2012
OFSAA By-Law 5, Eligibility for Competition, Section 4 - Individuals, subsection (iii) states:
"meet the following age requirements:
Senior the individual's birth certificate indicates that he/she has not yet reached his/her 19th birthday by January 1st prior to the start of the school year in which the competition is held.
Junior the individual's birth certificate indicates that he/she has not yet reached his/her 15th birthday by January 1st prior to the start of the school year in which the competition is held.
Midget the individual's birth certificate indicates that he/she has not yet reached his/her 14th birthday by January 1st prior to the start of the school year in which the competition is held. Students may compete in this category for one year only in Grade 9."
For the 2012-2013 school year, a Midget will be born in 1997 or later and may only compete at OFSAA in the Midget category for one year only in Grade 9. A Junior will be born in 1997 or 1998; and a Senior will be born in 1994 or later.
In addition, to correspond with the above, all OFSAA team Playing Regulations, in their eligibility sections state,"meet the following age requrement: the individual's birth certificate indicates that he/she has not reached his/her 19th birthday by January 1st prior to the start of the school year in which the competition is held."
